School buses are practicing their routes, the shelves at the store are stocked with notebooks, and kids are picking out their school outfits. It's that time of year again for the first day of school!
Hosting a back-to-school breakfast party can be an enjoyable way to celebrate the start of a new school year with your children. Whether your child is beginning preschool or their final year of high school, you can celebrate the occasion by having a party at home or inviting their classmates over for breakfast to catch up after the summer break.
From school-themed tableware, back-to-school balloons, first-day-of-school photo props, and mouth-watering breakfast buffet ideas, there are plenty of ways to make the first day of school memorable and exciting for kids of all ages. So before the big day arrives, take notes on our styled setup and organize a terrific brunch party to get your kids in the mood for school before they even step into the classroom.
We all know what would make this brunch even better: school-themed decorations! Balloons are a simple way to enhance your decorations. We recommend selecting balloons colors that complement the table decor, adding an extra pop of fun and inspiring children to dive into learning. You could even opt for balloons in the school's colors to showcase school pride!
We picked green, yellow, blue, and red latex balloons for our back-to-school balloon garland. We added a Globe Balloon and Pencil Balloon that reads "Back to School" with sweet happy smiles to encourage and support kids on their first day back!
With cutouts of notebooks, pencils, crayons, glue, and scissors, this Back to School Banner will have kids excited to start learning. Hang it across the table, along the wall, or in a photo booth backdrop for those first-day-of-school photos! Or teachers can use this school banner as a classroom decoration, creating a fun learning environment.
Inspired by the "good ole days," we painted our arch backdrops with black chalkboard paint. The paint lets you easily write a welcome message in chalk. Alternatively, you can let the kids doodle and play games such as tic-tac-toe.
We set up shelves on either side of our backdrop, loaded with school supplies and snacks to ring in a new school year. Glancing at the top right shelf, you'll be greeted by a tempting display of powdered donuts stacked neatly on a black cake stand. Just beneath the donuts are our Crayon Napkins. These napkins perfectly blend in with our school-themed party, and their crayon-like patterns and vibrant colors will surely spark joy and ignite creativity.
Located in the lower left cubby, we included another sleek black cake stand proudly showcasing a cluster of Back to School Baking Cups full of delicious donut holes. Surrounding the cake stand, you'll see traditional black and white composition notebooks as well as jars of paint that add a touch of color to the display.
On the top of our shelf is an array of school supplies and more delicious treats. We stacked a variety of glazed donuts on a cake stand and added a Back to School Custom Cake Topper. We customized this topper for our team member's son, Hudson. However, you can customize the topper with any message you want using the two packs of stickers that come with it.
We sat out sheets of these Temporary Tattoos as fun back-to-school party favors to help kiddos get in the school spirit. Each pack includes two sheets of seven vibrant and fun temporary tattoos, including pink and green crayons, a yellow pencil, glue, scissors, a notebook, and colorful ABC letters. Drop temporary tattoos into party favor bags or give them to students on the first day of school!
Consider having custom cookies made to add a personal touch to your back-to-school bash. We had custom sugar cookies designed by Objection Confections, coordinating with our back-to-school table decor. The sweet designs and colors have us reminiscing on our school days, but nothing will make homework sound fun again!
Our second shelf is filled with more school supplies, breakfast food, and encouragement! The top of the shelf features a light sign that says "back to school" with additional Crayon Napkins, Temporary Tattoos, and a cake stand crowded with yummy muffins inside Back to School Baking Cups.
As part of our school decorations, a pencil box filled with colored pencils, glue, a ruler, and more notebooks are on display and are easily accessible for kids to unleash their creativity during the celebration.
You know that children, especially those in elementary school, can be picky eaters. To help out, we've created a list of the top breakfast ideas for kids that you can include in your breakfast bar. This will not only make their taste buds happy, but it will also give them a positive start to their day at school.
Not only will students enjoy these treats, but many of these foods are easy to prepare or can be store-bought!
To celebrate going back to school, we decked out our back-to-school tablescape with tableware fit for a classroom. We used a Black and White Striped tablecloth to lay the foundation and protect it from messes and spills. For the centerpiece, we included a clipboard with school-themed sugar cookies and a First Day of School Pennant Flag to wave a warm welcome to the students. Alternatively, it can be used as a back-to-school photo prop for those memorable first-day-of-school photos.
For each place setting, we included a Yellow School Bus Plate followed by an ABCs Dessert plate with pastel alphabet letters. Additionally, we laid out ABCs Lunch Napkins and provided a set of Black and White Reusable Cutlery so guests could wipe their mouths and keep their hands clean.
We equipped every guest with a Cherry Red Cup to match the color of the stop sign on the school bus plates. To avoid spills, we slipped a Black and White Striped Straw in each cup which complements the striped pattern on the table cover.
Laid out on either side of the table are Crayon Napkins, which come in four vibrant colors—red, yellow, green, and blue. These colorful napkins are ideal for wiping hands or cleaning up spills on the table.
It's an exciting time of year. Everyone is getting ready to drop kids off at the bus stop, pack lunches and help with homework.
We hope you found some helpful ideas for hosting a first-day-of-school breakfast party for your children. Whether it's suggestions for breakfast foods or finding the ideal school-themed decorations, your children will certainly appreciate it!
